Taxonomy
Downsimus rainsi was named by Albright et al. (2026). Its type specimen is MMNS VP-7334, a tooth (right m2), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Jones Branch Local Fauna, which is in an Arikareean terrestrial claystone in the Catahoula Formation of Mississippi.
