Stibarus montanus

Taxonomy
Stibarus montanus was named by Matthew (1903). Its type specimen is AMNH 9668, a mandible (a lower jaw containing the second, third, and fourth premolars, and the first molar), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pipestone Springs, which is in a Chadronian terrestrial claystone in the Renova Formation of Montana.

It was recombined as Nanochoerus montanus by Macdonald (1955).

P. Edwards 1976Stibarus montanus is approximatcIy the same size, but slightly more robust than S. obtusilobus. ‘?S. montunus has a cingulum developed on the posterior end of the molars in contrast to S. obtusilubus which has a cingulum developed around the anterior end of the molars.
