Paralopias follioti was named by Canevet (2025). Its type specimen is MNHN.F.PTF795, a tooth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Moulin de Débat (inferior), which is in a Serravallian marine sandstone in France. It is the type species of Paralopias.
