Megalolamna serotinus

Taxonomy

Otodus serotinus was named by Probst (1879). Its type specimen is GPIT-PV-31738, a tooth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Kodelsberg quarry, which is in a Burdigalian marine horizon in the Baltringen Formation of Germany.

It was recombined as Megalolamna serotinus by Pollerspöck and Shimada (2024).

Synonyms

Megalolamna paradoxodon was named by Shimada et al. (2017). Its type specimen is UCMP 112146, a tooth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pyramid Hill, upper concretion-bearing bed, which is in an Aquitanian marine sandstone in the Jewett Formation of California. It is the type species of Megalolamna.

It was synonymized subjectively with Megalolamna serotinus by Pollerspöck and Shimada (2024).
Lamna bassanii was named by Alessandri (1897). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Rosignano (La Colma), which is in a Burdigalian carbonate limestone in Italy.
