Taeniolabis scalper was named by Cope (1884) [objective junior synonym of T. sulcatus].
It was synonymized subjectively with Polymastodon taoensis by Roger (1896); it was considered a nomen dubium by Granger and Simpson (1929) and Matthew (1937); it was synonymized subjectively with Taeniolabis taoensis by Simmons (1986) and Simmons (1987).
