Farcus was named by Pessagno et al. (1986) [Sepkoski's age data: J Plie-u J Toar-l Sepkoski's reference number: 763]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Farcidae.

It was assigned to Farcidae by Yeh and Cheng (1998); and to Nassellaria by Sepkoski (2002).
