Tapirus californicus
Taxonomy
Tapirus haysii californicus was named by Merriam (1913). Its type specimen is UCMP 8747, a tooth (m2 (?)), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Wood's Creek, which is in a Pleistocene terrestrial gravel in California.
It was recombined as Tapirus californicus by Simpson (1945), Slaughter (1966), Kurten and Anderson (1980).
