Viverravus gracilis

Taxonomy

Viverravus gracilis was named by Marsh (1872) [genotype]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Grizzly Buttes, which is in a Bridgerian terrestrial horizon in the Bridger Formation of Wyoming. It is the type species of Viverravus.

Didymictis dawkinsianus was named by Cope (1881).

It was recombined as Viverravus dawkinsianus by Wortman (1899), Matthew (1909), Matthew and Granger (1915); it was synonymized subjectively with Viverravus gracilis by Wortman (1901), Hay (1902), Robinson (1966).
Harpalodon vulpinus was named by Marsh (1872) [suggested to be a synonym of M. parvivorus by Gunnell 1998c; same publication as H. sylvestris].

It was synonymized subjectively with Viverravus gracilis by Wortman (1901), Matthew (1909); it was recombined as Viverravus vulpinus by Thorpe (1923).
Triacodon fallax was named by Marsh (1871) [genotype]. It is the type species of Triacodon.

It was synonymized subjectively with Viverravus gracilis by Wortman (1901), Schoch (1987); it was synonymized subjectively with Sinopa minor by Thorpe (1923); it was considered a nomen dubium by Matthew (1909), Van Valen (1966); it was synonymized subjectively with Sinopa rapax by Gunnell (1998).
Ziphacodon rugatus was named by Marsh (1872) [genotype]. It is the type species of Ziphacodon.

It was synonymized subjectively with Viverravus gracilis by Wortman (1901); it was considered a nomen dubium by Matthew (1909), Thorpe (1923), Van Valen (1966).
