Taxonomy
Xuanhanosaurus qilixiaensis was named by Dong (1984). Its type specimen is IVPP V.6729. Its type locality is Xuanhan, which is in a Bajocian terrestrial horizon in the Shaximiao Formation of China. It is the type species of Xuanhanosaurus.
