Taxonomy
Dryornis was named by Moreno and Mercerat (1891).

It was synonymized subjectively with Phororhacos by Ameghino (1894).

It was assigned to Dryornithidae by Moreno and Mercerat (1891); to Vulturidae by Brodkorb (1967); and to Cathartidae by Tambussi et al. (2023).
