Taxonomy
Ophioscolex was named by Müller and Troschel (1842). It is extant. It is the type genus of Ophioscolecidae.

It was assigned to Ophiomyxinae by Matsumoto (1915), Spencer and Wright (1966); to Ophiomyxidae by Jagt (2000); and to Ophioscolecidae by O'Hara et al. (2018).
