Taxonomy
Santanaraptor placidus was named by Kellner (1999). Its type specimen is MN 4802-V, a partial skeleton, and it is a compression preserving soft parts. Its type locality is Santana do Cariri (general), which is in an Aptian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal shale in the Romualdo Formation of Brazil.
