Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
P. Goubet et al. 2000N. smithsii has small pinnules that are often ovoid or round, but sometimes triangular. Pinnules are attached perpendicularly to the rachis. Venation is course and widely spaced, with a distinct midvein. N. smithsii is morphologically similar to, but distinct from N. schlehanii and N. pocohontas. The differences between N. smithsii and the other two species are geographic and stratographic.
