Ornithomimus minutus was named by Marsh (1892). Its type specimen is USNM, a set of limb elements, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Troodon minutus by Olshevsky (2000); it was considered a nomen vanum by Matthew and Brown (1922); it was considered a nomen dubium by Russell (1972) and Padian (2004).
