Bellerophon leda was named by Hall (1859) [Figured in Hall 1875, pl. 13 f. 1].
It was recombined as Bucanopsis leda by Ulrich and Scofield (1897), Grabau and Shimer (1909), Prosser and Kindle (1913), Knight and Bridge (1944), Fisher (1951) and Ellison (1965); it was recombined as Retispira leda by Rollins et al. (1971), Kase and Nishida (1986), Blodgett et al. (1999), Frýda (2000), Heidelberger (2001) and Wagner (2023).
