Taxonomy
Lycopodiales was named by Dumortier (1829) [Kenrick and Crane 1997 give this as "Lycopodiales" in quotation marks.]. It is extant. It was considered monophyletic by I (2016).

It was assigned to Pteridophyta by Knowlton (1919) and Chandler (1961); to Lycopsida by Kenrick and Crane (1997); to Lycophyta by Taylor et al. (2008); and to Lycopodiopsida by I (2016) and Perez Loinaze et al. (2023).
