Taxonomy
Protophyllum semotum was named by Hickey (1977). It is not extant. Its type specimen is USNM 43608. Its type locality is Western Pit of Hebron Brick Co. (USNM 14053), which is in a Wasatchian channel claystone in the Golden Valley Formation of North Dakota.
