Nipponosaurus sachalinensis
Taxonomy
Nipponosaurus sachalinensis was named by Nagao (1936). Its type specimen is UHR 6590, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Kawakami Colliery, Sakhalin, which is in a Santonian/Campanian marginal marine mudstone in the Russian Federation. It is the type species of Nipponosaurus.
It was corrected as Nipponosaurus sachaliensis by Nagao (1939), Ohashi et al. (2015); it was misspelled as Nipponosaurus sachaliensis by Hoffet (1943), Young (1958), Tatarinov (1964), Kuhn (1964), Rozhdestvensky (1977), Maryanska and Osmólska (1981), Weishampel and Weishampel (1983), Weishampel and Horner (1990), Matsukawa and Obata (1994); it was considered a nomen dubium by Norman and Sues (2000); it was considered a nomen dubium by Godefroit et al. (2008).
