Lonchidion indicus was named by Yadagiri (1986). Its type specimen is GSI TI.1. Its type locality is Yamanpalli bonebed, Kota, which is in a Sinemurian/Pliensbachian coarse channel fill claystone/sandstone in the Kota Formation of India.
