Hyriinae was named by Swainson (1840) [m. kosnik taxon no: 10853; NOTE: Uliana and Camacho (1975) cite Ortmann as the authority for Hyriinae.]. It is extant.
It was assigned to Unionidae by Vokes (1980), Beu et al. (1990); and to Hyriidae by Bouchet et al. (2010), Carter et al. (2011).
