Thecaliinae was named by Dall (1903) [m. kosnik taxon no: 9255]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Carditidae by Vokes (1980), Moore (1992), Bieler and Mikkelsen (2006), Bouchet et al. (2010) and Carter et al. (2011).
