Theodoxus was named by Monfort (1810) [m. kosnik taxon no: 7490]. It is extant. Its type is Theodoxus lutetianus.
It was assigned to Neritinae by Wilson (1993), Lozouet et al. (2001); to Neritidae by Oostingh (1935), Harzhauser and Mandic (2001), Harzhauser (2002), Symonds (2002); and to Neritininae by Bouchet et al. (2005).
