Taxonomy
Parapontoporia pacifica was named by Barnes (1984) [University of California, Riverside]. Its type specimen is UCR 21244, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Locality 11, which is in a Messinian coastal horizon in the Almejas Formation of Mexico. It is the type species of Parapontoporia.
