Medocinia tetragorhina
Taxonomy
Delphinus tetragorhinus was named by Delfortrie (1875). Its type specimen is MNHB 174, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Saint-Medard-en-Jalle, Miocene, which is in a Burdigalian marine horizon in France.
It was recombined as Champsodelphis tetragorhinus by Van Beneden and Gervais (1880), Van Beneden and Gervais (1880), Longhi (1898), Trouessart (1898) and Trouessart (1904); it was synonymized subjectively with Cyrtodelphis sulcatus by Abel (1900); it was recombined as Medocinia tetragorhina by Muizon (1988) and Tanaka and Fordyce (2014).
