Liolithax pappus
Taxonomy
Lophocetus pappus was named by Kellogg (1955). Its type specimen is USNM 15985 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Parker Creek, north, Zone 10-11, which is in a Langhian estuary/bay claystone in the Calvert Formation of Maryland.
It was recombined as Liolithax pappus by Barnes (1978), Barnes (1985), Gottfried et al. (1994), Ichishima et al. (1995), Dawson (1996), Uhen et al. (2008), Peredo et al. (2018); it was recombined as Miminiacetus pappus by Godfrey and Lambert (2023).
