Taxonomy
Protophocaena minima was named by Abel (1905) [specimen number from Ahrens (2005)]. Its type specimen is IRSBN 391-M.172 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Anvers, which is in a Miocene/Pliocene marine horizon in Belgium.
