Asiatoceratodus was named by Vorobyeva (1967). Its type is Asiatoceratodus sharovi. It is the type genus of Ceratodontidae.
It was assigned to Neoceratodontidae by Martin (1982); to Asiatoceratodontidae by Goodwin et al. (1999), Castro et al. (2004), Schultze (2004); and to Ceratodontidae by van der Laan (2019).
