Taxonomy
Lourinhanosaurus antunesi was named by Mateus (1998). Its type specimen is ML 370, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Peralta, which is in a Kimmeridgian terrestrial sandstone in the Lourinhã Formation of Portugal. It is the type species of Lourinhanosaurus.
