Taxonomy

Sanpasaurus was named by Young (1944). Its type is Sanpasaurus yaoi.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Weishampel and Horner (1990).

It was assigned to Ornithopoda by Huene (1958); to Camptosauridae by Huene (1959); to Sauropoda by Tatarinov (1964); to Iguanodontidae by Young (1944), Romer (1956), Kuhn (1964), Thulborn (1974), Dong et al. (1983), Zhao (1983), He (1984); to Sauropoda by Romer (1966), Dong (1992); and to Sauropoda by Upchurch (1995), McPhee et al. (2016).
