Ammorhynchus was named by Nesbitt and Whatley (2004). It is not extant. Its type is Ammorhynchus navajoi.
It was assigned to Rhynchosauria by Nesbitt and Whatley (2004); to Rhynchosauridae by Mukherjee and Ray (2015); and to Stenaulorhynchinae by Schultz et al. (2016).
