Cetotherium parvum was named by Trouessart (1898) [This is a replacement name for Cetotherium pusillum Cope (1890), so the type locality is 55396.]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Kellogg (1968).

Synonyms
  • Delphinapterus tyrannus was named by Cope (1868). Its type specimen is ANSP 11253, a set of vertebrae (one dorsal and three lumbar vertebrae), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is James T. Thomas estate, which is in a Serravallian offshore shelf horizon in the Calvert Formation of Maryland.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Cetotherium parvum by Hay (1902).
