Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
E. Lindsay et al. 2016Paciculus walshi is characterised by having lower incisors with type 10 schmelzmuster and three ribs on the anterior enamel surface, a reduced anterocone on M1 and absence of ananteroconid on m1; the anterior cingulum on m1 joins the anterior metaconid firmly near mid-height, it then curves gently lingually and descends to terminate at the anterior base of the protoconid. Paciculus walshi also shares a hystrichomorphous zygoma with other members of the Tribe Leidymyini, and differs from most other members of the tribe Leidymini in lacking an anteroconid on m1. Most other Cricetidae known from North America (except for some specimens of Paciculus nebraskensis, Paciculus dakotensis, Paciculus cedrus, aciculus (Geringia) copiosus, Leidymys juxtaparvulus and Leidymys nematodon) have a well-developed anteroconid on m1.
