Taxonomy
Mycteropidae was named by Cope (1886). Its type is Mycterops. It is the type family of Mycteropoidea.

It was assigned to Stylonuracea by Størmer (1955); to Eurypterida by Schram (1984); to Hibbertopteroidea by Lamsdell et al. (2010); and to Mycteropoidea by Dunlop et al. (2020), Lamsdell (2025).
