Nedcolbertia justinhoffmanni was named by Kirkland et al. (1998). Its type specimen is CEUM 5071. Its type locality is CEUM Loc. #42GR 190v, which is in a Valanginian lacustrine claystone in the Cedar Mountain Formation of Utah.
