Macroolithus rugustus
Taxonomy
Oolithes rugustus was named by Young (1965). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is IVPP V2788, an egg, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is IVPP Loc. 6224, Lashuyuan, which is in a Maastrichtian terrestrial sandstone in the Pingling Formation of China. It is the type species of Macroolithus.
It was recombined as Macroolithus rugustus by Zhao (1975), Zhao (1978), Zhao (1979), Zhao et al. (1991), Mikhailov (1994), Zhao (1994), Mikhailov (1997), Mikhailov (2000), Amo Sanjuán et al.
