Taxonomy
Graptemys was named by Agassiz (1857). It is extant. Its type is Testudo geographica.
It was assigned to Testudinidae by Wilson (1967); to Emydinae by Bickham (1975) and Ernst and Barbour (1989); to Emydidae by Hay (1930), Bjork (1967), Holman et al. (1990), Hutchison (1992), Frank and Ramus (1996) and Vlachos (2018); and to Deirochelyinae by Parham et al. (2008), Ehret and Bourque (2011), van Dijk et al. (2014) and Weems (2023).
