Dacrytheriidae was named by Deperet (1917). It is not extant.

It was reranked as the subfamily Dacrytheriinae by Hooker (1986), Cuesta Ruíz-Colmenares et al. (2006) and Erfurt and Metais (2007).

It was assigned to Anoplotherioidea by McKenna and Bell (1997); and to Anoplotheriidae by Hooker (1986), Cuesta Ruíz-Colmenares et al. (2006) and Erfurt and Metais (2007).
