Nemegtia was named by Lü et al. (2004). It is not extant. Its type is Nemegtia barsboldi.
It was replaced with Nemegtomaia by Lü et al. (2005).
It was assigned to Oviraptorinae by Lü (2005); and to Oviraptoridae by Lü et al. (2004), Lü and Zhang (2005).
