Cetotheriophanes capellinii
Taxonomy
Cetotherium (Cetotheriophanes) capellinii was named by Brandt (1873). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is San Lorenzo in Collina, which is in a Zanclean/Piacenzian shallow subtidal claystone in Italy. It is the type species of Cetotherium (Cetotheriophanes).
It was synonymized subjectively with Balaenoptera cuvieri by Brandt (1874); it was recombined as Plesiocetus capellinii by Trouessart (1898); it was recombined as Balaenoptera capellinii by Trouessart (1904), Deméré (1986); it was recombined as Cetotherium capellinii by Cuscani Politi (1961); it was recombined as Cetotheriophanes capellinii by Deméré et al. (2005).
It was synonymized subjectively with Balaenoptera cuvieri by Brandt (1874); it was recombined as Plesiocetus capellinii by Trouessart (1898); it was recombined as Balaenoptera capellinii by Trouessart (1904), Deméré (1986); it was recombined as Cetotherium capellinii by Cuscani Politi (1961); it was recombined as Cetotheriophanes capellinii by Deméré et al.
