Dinehichnus socialis
Taxonomy
Dinehichnus socialis was named by Lockley et al. (1998). Its type specimen is CU-MWC 198.2, a footprint, and it is a trace fossil. Its type locality is Boundary Butte tracksite, which is in a Kimmeridgian fluvial sandstone/mudstone in the Morrison Formation of Utah. It is the type species of Dinehichnus.

Tracks quadripartite, symmetric, and tridactyl with distinctive circular heel pad impression. Digit impressions consisting of single elongate, oval impressions sometimes with tapered claw impression. Digit divarication (II–IV) averaging about 90°. Trackways narrow with pace angulation of about 155°. Negative (inward) rotation of Digit III about 10–15° from trackway midline. Step length averaging a little more than three times foot length.” |
