It was assigned to Nothrotheriinae by Muizon and McDonald (1995), McDonald and Muizon (2002); to Megatheriidae by Amson et al. (2017); and to Thalassocninae by Muizon et al. (2004), Amson et al. (2017), De Los Arcos et al. (2017), Varela et al. (2019), Peralta-Prato and Solórzano (2019).
