Taxonomy
Bellerophon bilineatus was named by Ulrich and Scofield (1897) [Bellerophon bilineatus Ulrich in Ulrich & Scofield 1897]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Ulrich & Scofield near Danville (Upper Beds), which is in a Shermanian carbonate limestone/shale in the Lexington Formation of Kentucky.
It was recombined as Bellerophon (Bellerophon) bilineatus by Wahlman (1992); it was recombined as Sphenosphaera bilineatus by Knight (1945) and Wagner (2023).
