Bellerophon (Bellerophon) stummi was named by Linsley (1968) [Bellerophon (Bellerophon) stummi Linsley 1968]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Unit 1. East Wall of France Stone Company Quarry, which is in an Eifelian carbonate dolomite in the Lucas Formation of Ohio.
It was recombined as Bellerophon stummi by Wagner (2023).
