Taxonomy
Bucaniopsis forbesi was named by Reed (1921). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Locality 4. Shalloch Mill, Whitehouse Bay, Girvan, which is in a Pusgillian carbonate limestone in the Mill Formation of the United Kingdom.

It was considered a nomen vanum by Wagner (2023).
