Taxonomy
Eotomaria areyi was named by Clarke and Ruedemann (1903). It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Pike's Quarry, Frost Ave & Summer St, Rochester, which is in a Homerian carbonate dolomite in the Lockport Formation of New York.

It was recombined as Stenoloron areyi by Wagner (2023).
