Taxonomy
Murchisonia vermicula was named by Hall (1856). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Spergen Hill, near railroad station at Harristown, southeast of Salem, which is in a Meramecian carbonate limestone in the Salem Formation of Indiana.
It was recombined as Solenospira vermicula by Ulrich and Scofield (1897); it was recombined as Murchisonia (Murchisonia) vermicula by Yochelson and Saunders (1967); it was recombined as Hypergonia vermicula by Wagner (2023).
