Pleurotomaria (Palaeoschisma) girvanense was named by Donald (1902) [Pleurotomaria (Palaeoschisma) girvanense Donald 1902]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Ardmillan Braes, Girvan, Ayrshire, which is in a Burrellian carbonate limestone in the Ardwell Farm Formation of the United Kingdom. It is the type species of Pleurotomaria (Palaeoschisma).
It was recombined as Clathrospira girvanense by Knight et al. (1960); it was recombined as Palaeoschisma girvanense by Wagner (2023).
