Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
B. Senowbari-Daryan 2013"... an envelope (epiphytic) organism forming growths of
dark calcite around other organisms. The algae described
usually have the appearance of bacillary, coiled, vermicular,
irregular cylinders formed as a result of the overgrowth of
some vanished stems, trace of which remain in the form of a
tube filled with secondary calcite ...
. The existence of thin, dark, threads make us think that the formation described represents trichomes of blue-green algae of a very small diameter (2–5 µm), which rendered calcareous from the surface, form crust growths ...
. Hollows of the trichomes proper were filled with calcite after the death of the individual.’’ (Original description of Tubiphytes obscurus by Maslov 1956, translated by Croneis and Toomey
1965, p. 8).
