Taxonomy
Steiromys principalis was named by Ameghino (1901) [According to Kramarz, 2004, this may not be the holotype, but probably is.]. It is not extant. Its type specimen is MACN A 52-608?, a fragment of an isolated lower incisor, a tooth.
