Taxonomy
Antarctopelta was named by Salgado and Gasparini (2006). Its type is Antarctopelta oliveroi.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Arbour and Currie (2016); it was considered a nomen nudum by Maidment et al. (2020).

It was assigned to Ankylosauria by Salgado and Gasparini (2006); to Nodosauridae by Otero and Reguero (2013); and to Parankylosauria by Soto-Acuña et al. (2024).
